The apparent suicide of an illegal alien at Panama City Beach has gotten his employer in trouble.
Witnesses found the man hanging by a rope from a tree located in a townhouse complex in the 8500 block of North Lagoon Drive.
The victim is in the country illegally. He is thought to be in his late forties. He was one of several workers performing renovation and maintenance at the complex.
His companions say he had some medical problems and was despondent over his mother’s condition in Mexico.
Captain Jimmy Stanford of the Sheriff’s Office says his officers issued the contractor, who employed the victim, a civil citation for hiring an illegal alien.
If it happens again, the contractor would face a criminal charge.
