The state notified airport officials about the permit approval at the end of December.

The Airport Authority wants to relocate the Panama City International Airport to a 4,000 acre site near West Bay.

To help finance the move they must first sell the current 700-acre airport site.

Airport officials have already received about 30 requests from individuals and businesses that want the opportunity to submit a bid. Those bid proposals will be due in late May or early June.

The next major step will be for the FAA to release its environmental impact study. That should arrive in the next few weeks.

Airport officials say they're glad to have cleared their first major hurdle. If everything stays on the current time table the new airport facility should be up and running by late 2009.
