A Pensacola hospital is teaming up with one of the nation's top cancer treatment centers.
Sacred Heart Health System is partnering with the MD Anderson Cancer Center at the University of Texas. Hospital officials say this will allow over 1,200 patients to have access to more than 100 treatment plans for almost every type and stage of cancer without having to leave the area.
This affiliation is the second major partnership announced in the Pensacola area. Last month, Baptist Health Care announced a similar affiliation with H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute of Tampa.
Doctors say cancer patients at Sacred Heart will receive treatment from physicians who have passed stringent standards-of-care evaluations from MD Anderson staff. The Texas staff also will monitor how Sacred Heart doctors handle patients.
