Some Walton beachfront homeowners trying to repair hurricane damage may face federal citations.
Walton County commissioners issued temporary armament permits to over 150 Gulf-front homeowners so they could build seawalls. The owners are hoping to keep a future storm from eroding the beach, and collapsing their homes.
But the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service says the seawalls may destroy habitats for sea turtles and other endangered species.
The feds are recommending the county apply for an incidental take permit, which would protect the homeowners from individual prosecution.
