This week is homecoming for Chipola College in Marianna. As part of the activities, Chipola is honoring one of its most well known alums and welcomed another home.
The late David Coley was named alumnus of the year. His widow and current state Rep. Marti Coley was on hand to accept the award and speak on her husband’s behalf.
Marti Coley worked as an instructor at Chipola for 16 years prior to being elected state representative.
Coley's message was to remind the group of students of her husband's legacy and that coming from a small town and attending a small school does not mean you can't go on to do big things.
Marti Coley said, "Sometimes we think that we have to be from something bigger for it to be better. That's not necessarily true. Bigger doesn't always mean better and I think that the one on one that they get here is so important."
David and Marti met while they were both students at Chipola College.
