A construction worker died after a dump truck backed over him at a construction site in gated community off Highway 30A in south Walton County.
Fifty-five-year-old Eugene Gilbert Timmer died at the scene.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Timmer stepped into the path of the truck driven by Joey Moore. No charges were filed against Moore, who was delivering sand.
Timmer was the superintendent at the site off where Destin-based Sterling Building Specialists was building a home.
Company owner Tommy Silva, who was at the accident scene, said that Sterling shut down operations so that workers can mourn the loss of their co-worker and friend. The dump truck involved in the accident was owned by Sterling, Silva said.
