Grand Jury Indicts Panama City Pilot for Public Indecency

A commercial pilot accused of having sex with a 16-year-old girl in a stairwell at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport was indicted on a misdemeanor charge of public indecency.

The Clayton County grand jury did not pursue a rape charge against 40-year-old Michael Darren Matthews of Panama City, Florida.

Matthews said the sex with the Virginia teenager was consensual, and that she told him she was 18.

The girl said they met Aug. 2 on a flight from Florida that stopped in Atlanta en route to Virginia, and that he approached her after she made a phone call and forced himself on her.
