MAMA

Everybody’s heard of Mothers Against Drunk Driving, but a new group, also organized by mothers, is hoping to make its name known here in the panhandle.

MAMA, or Mothers Against Methamphetamine, held a special introduction meeting Friday at the Bay County Sheriff’s Office.

The chapter out of Polk County spoke to local drug treatment facilities along with the Sheriff’s Office.

The group wants to see a chapter started here in Bay County, an area they feel is ready to fight the meth problem.

"The reason we re so successful is because the people who run the groups are recovered addicts, and I believe these are the folks people are going to listen too.”

MAMA was started in Alabama in 2002 by Dr. Mary Holley whose brother died from his meth addiction.
