Area Student Drowns on Church Outing in Minnesota

Authorities in Minnesota have recovered the body of a Crestview man who drowned Friday afternoon.

Hennepin County water patrol says 22-year-old University of Minnesota student David Chung drowned in a lake.

Bloomington police say Chung was one of two adults who had taken 12 kids from the Korean First Baptist Church in northeast Minneapolis on a picnic.

Chung reportedly jumped into the lake to retrieve a soccer ball.

Witnesses say he got at least 30 yards off the shore before showing signs of distress and then went under and never resurfaced.

Water temperatures at this time of the year are still in the 40s, despite the fact the air temps have been in the 70s.

Chung’s family is now in Minnesota to bring his body back to northwest Florida.
