Repair work is underway on several Okaloosa County bridges.
Crews recently finished updates on the Mid-Bay Bridge and are now working on the Marler Bridge in Destin.
Workers are replacing the existing fender systems. Fenders absorb some of the shock should a barge or boat hit the bridge pilings.
Such collisions in recent years have heavily damaged the Clyde Wells Bridge in Walton County and the Three Mile Bridge in Pensacola.
Crews will also repair two small fractures in two of the caps supporting the eastbound bridge deck. DOT officials say the project will cost $1.4 million.
Work should be completed next February.
