The Walton County Sheriff’s Office has started a new program called Project Lifesaver. This program uses state of the art technology in assisting those who care for victims of Alzheimer’s and other Related Mental Dysfunction Disorders and victims who become lost.
The sheriff’s office has purchased the electronic equipment and has had deputies trained in its use. People who are part of the program wear a personalized wristband that emits a tracking signal. The signal is tracked on ground or in the air over several miles.
When caregivers notify the Sheriff’s Office that the person is missing, a search team responds to the wanderer’s area and starts searching with the mobile locator tracking system.
If you are interested in obtaining information about the program and you are a Walton County resident, please contact Captain Eddie Farris or Deputy Wayne Grandstaff Sr. at 892-8186 or you may contact Alzheimer’s Family Services at (850)478-7790.
There is a fee of $ 50.00 a month to be able to lease the equipment. This pays for the wrist band and battery being changed out each month.
