Louisiana Evacuee Sentenced in Panama City for Selling Stolen Drugs

A man is convicted this week of looting drugs from a Louisiana pharmacy in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, then selling those drugs in Bay County.

Thirty-nine-year-old Joseph Durkin evacuated to our area last year claiming to be displaced by Katrina.

In September he was arrested and charged with trafficking in Amphetamine, Hydrocodone and Codeine. He also had Ritalin, Adderal and Darvocet as well as the antibiotic Cipro.

Durkin was arrested by Panama City Beach police after telling a police operative, quote, "I can get you anything you want."

State Attorney Steve Meadows say Circuit Judge Dedee Costello sentenced Durkin to 25 years in prison and fined him $1.1 million.
