Two Area Murders Probed

Walton County sheriff’s deputies say a man was found dead Friday in the front yard of a home at 75 Old Landfill Road, north Defuniak Springs.

Sheriff’s Deputies and Walton County Fire Rescue arrived at the scene and found a white male, later identified as William Joseph Jones, age 57, dead from an apparent gunshot wound.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement, Walton sheriff’s investigators and the medical examiner’s office were all called to the scene.

At this time no determination has been made as to how the gunshot was inflicted and the investigation is continuing.

Meanwhile, in a separate case, this time in Okaloosa County, a Panama City man was found dead in a car in Destin.

Thirty-seven-year-old Tommy Sherman of 1133 Beck Ave., Apt #7, was found dead in the passenger seat of the car parked in the front yard of a friend’s town home on Destin Airport Road.

How he was killed has not been made public, but lawmen say the medical examiner has ruled the death a homicide. Little is known about the case or any motive or possible suspects. Police are being very tight lipped about the case.

Sherman lived in Panama City, but reportedly was presently working temporarily in the Okaloosa County area.
