One group of friends spent their weekend painting rain boots.
All the painting is in an effort to prepare for a quickly approaching auction that will be held this week in memory of their friend Marisa Joy Williams who lost her life back in February.
"Project Joy Boots" was birthed to raise money for a Gulf Coast scholarship in honor of Williams.
You may remember the young girl who died on February 23rd of this year in a one-car accident.
The organizers of "Project Joy Boots" wanted to raise money doing something Williams enjoyed.
That was painting rain boots!
Williams liked expressing herself not only through the paint brush, but through the stage too.
This young artist was a theater major and so the Gulf Coast Scholarship will be for theater majors.
Her friends believe the painting parties and the auction are the perfect ways to honor her.
One of William's friends, Nathan Simmons says, "This week has been kind of rocky for everybody and um it's just really nice to get together and remember her like this um and do something that's honestly like pure and fun which is what she was all about."
Willams was a 2006 graduate of Bay High School .
She also attended Gulf Coast Community College until she transferred to UCG in Orlando.
The painted rain boots will be auctioned off this Friday night at 7p.m. in the black box theater at Gulf Coast Community College.
If you'd like to paint a pair of boots for friday's auction or would like to attend you can find more information on the MYSPACE: http://www.myspace.com/project_joy_boots
