Cottondale- Word was spreading like wildfire through the tight-knit Cottondale community.

"One of the grandmothers of one of the boys is a member of my church," Cottondale High School Principal, Ken Granger said, "and she informed us she would not be at church that night because her grandson was involved in an accident."

Teacher Heather Braxton recalled how she got the news, "I happened to see a facebook post their mentioned their names and said that they needed prayer. So, I knew something tragic had happened- I didn't know what it was. Come to find out through various text messages I received, they had been in an accident and they're injuries were pretty serious."

Jacquez Walker, Sheldon Vann and Eli Jackson all graduated last year from Cottondale High School. After graduation, the three went on to play college football for Webber University near Kissimmee. On their way home for Christmas break Wednesday night, the boys we're involved in a serious car accident on Interstate 10.

"This is the day the three boys signed their athletic scholarship," Braxton explained, pointing to a year book picture from signing day.

"They were very athletic," said Granger. "They contributed to the football team a great deal. They were a part of probably one of the most talented teams that we've had here at Cottondale."

According to Walkers grandmother, Olivia Harrison, all of the boys are at Tallahassee Memorial Health Care Hospital. She said Walker was in stable condition in ICU. He has been in a drug induced coma due to swelling on the brain, but was expected to make a full recovery.

Harrison also told us Jackson was in stable condition after having abdominal surgery. There was no word on Vann's condition- but when News Channel 7 called this afternoon, Vann was in surgery.

"This community has been impacted by the accident. We know this is something we'll never forget, we'll always remember and we'll continue to pray and move forward from here" Granger told us.

Vann is married with a two month old son, and Jackson has a three month old daughter.
