Back here on a local, level fire officials from all over Bay County joined forces Saturday to prevent tragedies.

The different Bay County departments came together on the campus of Gulf Coast Community College for the last day of National Fire Prevention Week.

It was a chance for kids and adults to see the equipment used to respond to local fires like one fireman climbing down a rope, but more importantly it's a great chance for everyone to learn some of the basic ways to prevent and escape house fires.

There's no better way to put those fire skills to use than by actually experiencing a smoke filled room. The smoke filled RV seemed to be the hit of the event for the kids.

Captain Coco with the Panama City Beach Fire Department said, "This event, the number one thing we want is the importance of Fire Prevention Week actually, having a working smoke detector, a fire escape plan, actually practicing home fire drills at home, that's what the kind of stuff we're trying to accomplish this week."

Panama City Beach Fire Department wasn't the only crew out there. Fire crews from Bay County, Tyndall Air Force Base, Parker, Callaway, Lynn Haven and Panama City were there, too.

Plus, Bay Medical's EMS, Bay County Airport Fire Department, Division of Forestry, and even the Florida State Fire Marshals.
