The most powerful air superiority wing in the Air Force has a new commander.
Col. Russ Handy is the new commander of the 33rd Fighter Wing at Eglin Air Force Base.
Col. Handy is a seasoned F-15 pilot. His most recent assignment was Vice Wing Commander for the 1st Fighter Wing at Langley AFB.
He takes over for Brigadier General Select, Col. Brett Williams, who will become the new Combat Command Inspector General at Langley Air Force Base.
Lt. General Gary North, Commander of the 9th Air Force and Commander of U.S. Central Command Air Forces, oversaw Tuesday’s change of command.
"The wing is pretty much synonymous with air superiority for many years.”
Col. Handy is a Maryland native who's been in the Air Force since 1983. This is his second tour of duty at Eglin.
