The Association of Bay County Educators and the Bay County School Board are negotiating an 11.56 percent increase in salary and benefits for this coming school year.
The ABCE is asking the School Board negotiating team for this increase to reflect the increase in funding coming from the state.
They'll also look at the Star Teacher Program to determine the criteria to compensate those teachers who qualify.
Negotiators say they hope this process will remain friendly. The contract will take effect for this upcoming school year.
Nancy Sheffield is the ABCE Chief Negotiator and said, "We are negotiating. We know what money is available to the district and we know what would be a fair increase for the teachers, and we're hoping the board will recognize that also."
Negotiators expect this process to continue throughout the summer, and possibly longer.
