Navarre Beach Restoration Project on Hold After Turtle's Death

A dune restoration project on Navarre Beach in the Florida Panhandle is shut down until at least Oct. 1 after the death of a loggerhead turtle.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers made the decision Wednesday.

Officials say the juvenile turtle, a protected species, died Saturday.

This is the third time a turtle has interrupted the project.

The work started in late March and is about 72 percent complete.
