Dothan-Based Guard Unit Prepares for Deployment

One hundred sixty National Guardsmen from Dothan are preparing to go overseas to possibly serve in Iraq.

The 186th Engineering Company will be deployed Wednesday for the 14 to 15-month mission. A deployment ceremony open to the public will be held at 7 a.m. Wednesday at the Farm Center in Dothan.

The unit's commander, Captain Clay Strickland, says they have been training in Dothan and Eglin Air Force Base in Florida for the last six months to prepare for deployment.

The unit will report to Fort McCoy, Wisconsin, where they will train for two more months before going overseas.

Strickland says he and about 15 others in the unit have previously served in Iraq. He says they're ready to fulfill their mission.
