Apparently there will not be an outside investigation of the Panama City Beach Police Department.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement says it won't touch any investigation, based on this state statute that requires police officers to be informed of the nature of the complaints, and the person who filed the complaints.
The case stems from two letters, sent anonymously to Beach City Hall. The writers accuse beach police officers of drinking and having sex while on duty, stealing, abusing their authority and abusing citizens.
Police Chief Robert Harding contacted the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and requested they look at the letters, but the FDLE said since there was nothing criminal in the case, it warrants no FDLE investigation.
Beach police officials say unless the writers of the letters identify themselves, they consider this case closed.
