Panama City Rescue Mission encourages all families that have not already registered for the annual back-to-school clothing giveaway to come to the former Barnhill's at Panama City Mall this Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
"So far we've already registered 200 families. That equates to about 400 kids," said the Mission's volunteer coordinator. "We are aiming to help 1,000 children. We hope the on-site registration will encourage parents who have not already called."
The Mission also says it will also help parents visualize the process and get a preview of the clothes they will receive, and they'll get a better understanding of the school uniform policy.
Families that qualify for the program are those deemed homeless according to Bay District Schools, single parent homes, those that already receive public assistance (food stamps, Social Security, etc.), unemployed, low income, and families with foster children.
The Mission says that to ensure registration works smoothly, parents should bring proof of their qualification and social security cards for themselves and each of their children.
For more information or to register by phone, call 769-0783 Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Volunteers are needed to help with the sorting and are encouraged to drop by and sign up.
