According to Ruth Sasser with the Bay County Sheriff's Office, a local woman is being charged with the murder of her newborn baby.
Apparently 26-year-old Stephanie Michelle Collins’ mother found the baby's body in a plastic trash bag inside a trash can outside a Fountain home.
Deputies say the 26-year-old Collins gave birth to the baby boy overnight, then covered his nostrils and mouth with her hand before throwing him away in a trash can.
The newborn's body wasn't discovered until around 2 o’clock Sunday afternoon by his would-be grandmother. She tells deputies she didn't even know her daughter was pregnant.
Collins is at Bay Medical Center under guard, and when she's released she will be taken to the Bay County Jail and charged with one count of open murder.
Bay County sheriff's investigators say Collins already has a nine-year-old son and had already had an abortion in the past.
