Panama City native Janice Lucas announced her bid for the Democratic nomination for the District 6 House seat.
Lucas admits it's an ambitious start to her political career at this level, but the A.D. Harris High School teacher is ambitious. She's a long-time community activist who's worked as a communications consultant and talk show host.
When asked why she wants to run for office, Lucas quoted Ghandi, saying we have to be the change we wish to see happen.
"Many times the people who are elected to office are those who represent the business and special interest, and so we the people often feel like our interests are not being met," Lucas said.
Lucas says she wants to give those who feel there is no reason to vote the desire to become part of the system. Two other Democrats have announced their intentions to run, along with four Republicans.
