Liberty County sheriff's deputies are wrapping up their investigation into a freak accident that killed a Wewahitchka man. It happened just a little before 5:00 Tuesday evening about 5-miles south of Bristol.

Deputies say 42-year-old Samuel Peterson was working with a logging crew in the Johnson Swamp area, near the end of Johnson Crossing Road.

The crew was pulling a log out of a tree, when the log hit a dead tree nearby. The dead tree snapped and fell on Peterson.

An autopsy concluded the blow cracked Peterson's rib cage away from his spine, and punctured an aorta.

Investigators say Tuesday was Peterson's first day working as a logger.
