Doctors say a Bay County man who cut off his wife’s head is now competent to stand trial.
Blake Collier has been undergoing mental evaluation and treatment at a Gainesville psychiatric hospital.
The 20-year-old Collier was committed by the courts after he was ruled incompetent to stand trial for the murder of 18-year-old Lennia Hing-Collier. Her headless body was found in a shallow grave in a wooded area off Big Daddy Drive at Panama City Beach in March of last year.
Collier told the News Herald the decapitation was part of a religious ritual.
Doctors have now determined Collier is competent, and his public defender says that based on his recent phone conversations with Collier, he will not contest the doctor’s findings.
A formal court hearing on Collier’s competency is set for next week.
