Air Force Special Operations Command Lieutenant Colonel Dave Hambleton is building the Eleventh Intelligence Squadron that will help locate insurgents by analyzing video from unmanned aerial vehicles and through other specialized techniques.
The unit will convey vetted information to field commanders. Commanders will then pass the pictures, text messages, voice data and other information to troops in the field.
Hambleton says if an operation takes place at dusk, the data could be sent so that it contrasts for easier reading on whatever devices special forces troops are using.
If a squad of Green Berets and a combat controller are entering a village, the transmission might also contain cultural data.
He estimates that his squadron is about two years from taking part in combat operations.
