Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officers say a coyote, maybe more than one, are responsible for killing a cow in southern Jackson County.
The calf was killed on a 300-acre farm near Alford. Someone found the carcass Tuesday.
So, wildlife officers set-up some cameras, and this is what they photographed. You can clearly see a coyote standing over the body of a dead cow.
One witness claimed he’d seen a cougar in the area last month.
The cougar theory persists because an area farmer had once owned 5-cougars. But those cougars were de-clawed, and later died from feline leukemia.
In this case, wildlife officers say they only found coyote or wild dog tracks around the cow’s body...no cat tracks.
Coyotes are prevalent in our area.
