The mailing deadline is obviously a concern for many.

But when the day began, many people hadn't even started preparing their tax returns, much less looking for postage stamps.
Jackson County's last minute filers got some help on several different fronts.

These Accounting students may look like they're just killing time before class.

But they're actually learning.

They're participating in an exercise, helping people fill out their income tax forms.

Their Professor wanted them to get some real life, hands-on experience.

Student Tax Helper Kim Grant says, "I want to become an expert at doing taxes. I want to become an accountant one day."

Not many taxpayers showed up for help on the last day, but overall there have been good crowds.

"Well, the first couple of days, people were excited to begin filing their taxes. So we were pretty busy," she says.

The free service began back in February.

Almost 300 people took advantage of it.

Chipola College Professor Lee Shook says the turnout basically came down to two things: Time and money.

"Most people that are getting refunds want to get it back quickly. The people that were left to come in today were either people who actually didn't have to file."

Then there were those who have to pay taxes.

The downtown Marianna post office geared up for the annual deadline rush, adding 3-additional workers.

Postmaster Chris Cox says, "absolutely, absolutely. Everybody seems to kinda wait around until the last minute, most of us included, so yeah, it has been a lot busier."

Cox says business has picked up significantly in the last two days.

"Yeah, probably today about 85% of our customers have been mailing off their taxes."

Those waiting in line are just hoping all their information is correct and that they don't get a return letter from the IRS, informing them they're being audited.

The post office in Marianna had a 4:30pm cutoff time.
