A former local fishing boat captain has been fined and placed on probation for firing a handgun to scare dolphins away from his boat.
Christopher Weaver fired several rounds from a .38 caliber handgun because he was angry at the dolphins for taking the fish his passengers were trying to catch.
Federal Magistrate Larry Bodiford ordered Weaver to pay a $1,000 fine and serve two years probation.
Weaver, now working on boats in Louisiana, had reached a plea deal with federal prosecutors. He could have been fined as much as $5,000
