A longtime logger has died in a unusual mishap in Calhoun County.
Sixty-five-year-old Lamar Taunton of Wewahitcka died Wednesday in the river swamp area north of Blountstown where he and his brother were cutting trees.
Sheriff David Tatum says Taunton was cutting a large tree, about 80 feet tall, when it started to fall, snapped about 20 feet up, and came crashing down on top of him, killing him instantly.
Taunton had worked in the logging business for 50 years and was planning to retire this year.
