Safe Cities

A new ranking says the Broward County town of Coral Springs is the safest city in the state and number 10 in the nation, but Orlando had the worst score in the state and came it at #25 on the list of “most dangerous cities.”

The ranking from the Morgan Quitno Press, which was released Monday, is based on six different categories of crimes: murder, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary and motor vehicle theft.

371 cities were ranked and Coral Springs ended up as number ten. Saint Lucie was second best in the sunshine state and had a national ranking of #25. Orlando, West Palm Beach and Miami showed up on the low end of the scale. Miami was ranked #327, West Palm checked in at #344. Orlando had the lowest “safety” ranking in the state, coming it at #347 out of 371.

That ranking earned Orlando the dubious distinction of coming it at #25 on the list of “most dangerous” cities. But Tampa and Miami were also singled out for showing substantial improvement compared to last year’s ranking.
