Destin Shopping Season

The stock market took a dip on Monday and some analysts say it’s because retail sales weren't as good as expected this weekend, but Destin store owners may be doing better than many around the country.

Retailers at Sandestin's Silver Sands Outlet Mall and Destin Commons mall say sales from this year are looking to surpass last years.

Tommy Hilfiger and Polo Ralph Lauren in Silver Sands each hired 30 to 50 more workers for the holiday season.

Management at the Bass Pro Shop in Destin Commons say they can't find enough workers to fill their need.

Retailers say the holiday spending will keep money rolling into the community now that the tourist season is mostly over, and they are predicting the high spending trend will continue. Silver Sands retailers say most already have higher numbers than last year, and in this area, consumer confidence seems to be high.

The malls will be hosting special events to lure in shoppers during December. Santa arrives at Silver Sands on December 2.
