Hallman Gets Top State Job

The new head of the state Fire Marshal’s Office is a man who started his career in Panama City.

Les Hallman has accepted the offer from the state’s incoming Chief Financial Officer Alex Sink to be the executive director of the Fire Marshal’s Office.

Hallman is presently the South Walton Fire District Chief. Prior to that he served in Destin, and in Fire and Emergency Medical Services in Panama City.

He’s been the head of the South Walton district for 10 years and has built it up to one of the best districts in the state with five stations and 100 employees with fire and medical services for the southern half of Walton County.

Hallman said, “This is a once in a lifetime offer, but it has not been an easy decision.”

He said all the details had not been formalized, but he expected to be in the Tallahassee position by late in January.

A search committee has been established by the Board of Fire Commissioners for Hallman’s replacement.
