You could soon be stuck behind a golf cart in Destin traffic.
Destin City Council members say they passed an ordinance Monday that would allow golf carts on any street in the city where the speed limit is 35 or below.
Before the golf carts are allowed on the road, they first have to be turned into low speed vehicles.
They have to have headlights, stoplights, seatbelts, and turn signals.
In fact, in two years, any golf cart on any public road in Destin has to meet these specifications.
Council members estimate changing your golf cart into a low speed vehicle will cost between $500 and $1500 dollars.
Council members first addressed the issue of golf carts on public roads earlier this year, after a few neighborhoods complained of golf carts causing traffic problems.
However, some city council members worry that by allowing these vehicles on the road, the city may be asking for even more trouble.
City council members say they voted to phase the golf cart changes in over two years because they wanted to give people a chance to save up the money needed to make the modifications to their carts.
