No Charges Expected in Pedestrian Fatality

A 63-year old woman was killed around 8:34 p.m. Wednesday night as she tried to cross Highway 98 in Destin west of its intersection with Danny Wuerffel Way.

63-year old Mary Kloepfer of Noblesville, Indiana died at an area hospital shortly after the crash. Investigators with the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office say Kloepfer had just arrived in town Wednesday afternoon for the winter.

Kloepfer was trying to cross the highway when she was hit by a S-U-V. She was later pronounced dead at Sacred Heart Hospital of the Emerald Coast.

Although the investigation is still ongoing, the driver of the SUV is not expected to face any charges in connection with the accident.
