An emotional and traditional military memorial is being held this evening to honor a local soldier killed in Iraq.
Family, friends, military brethren and supporters throughout the community are joining together to pay tribute to a fallen soldier.
Solemn faces drudged into Woodlawn Methodist Church in Panama City Beach this afternoon to honor the legacy of Capt. Shawn English.
The displays of American flags were one of many ways honor is being shown to the Army diver. The Army, Navy and Air Force are all being represented by troops paying tribute and giving a final salute to the soldier whose vehicle ran over a land mine in Iraq recently.
We're told the family is holding up and Capt. English's wife sent this heartfelt message to the community.
Todd Daily, English's brother-in-law, said, "I knew that I married the most amazing man, and my boys knew they had the best daddy. I just did not realize that my husband had touched so many lives. Men like my husband are rare. I pray that I have the strength to go on with out the love of my life. He gave me these three precious gifts. We will make it through with God's help and Shawn as our angel. My husband loved what he did. As any sailor or solider with tell you, he always choose the harder right over the easier wrong.
Family members have set up an education fund for English's three children, Nathan, Noah, and Austin.
You can stop by AmSouth or Region's Bank to make a donation to the "Captain English's Children: Education Fund."
English's funeral will be held in his home state of Ohio. Our thoughts, prayers and condolences go out to the family during their time of grief.
