A Callaway area woman died over the weekend in a drowning mishap in her home swimming pool.

Tanya Day, 38 of 710 Plantation Drive in Callaway was found a mid morning Saturday by friends she had invited over for a swim. After she failed to answer the door the friends found her unclothed at the bottom of her swimming pool.

Bay County sheriff deputies and Bay Medical paramedics performed resuscitation CPR but to no avail. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Deputies are investigating the circumstances surrounding her death. Witnesses say she had appeared to be drinking heavily the night before.

The medical examiner performed an autopsy today and is awaiting the results of toxicology tests before making a ruling as to the cause of death
