Christmas came early for some people in Washington County that could use the help.

The Salvation Army and the Tri-County Community Council passed out toys today in Chipley for needy families.

For the past 16 years, the two organizations have set up shop in Washington and surrounding counties, supplying toys and boxed food for needy families, just in time for the holidays.

Dozens of people who filled out an application lined up for the goodies early Wednesday morning.

Residents got their pick of toys and even bikes.

"We don't want to just give a hand out, but a hand up. We want to be able to help families provide for their children. We don't want it to be from the Salvation Army or from Tri-County. We want those families to take it home, wrap it, and put it under the tree for their children from them," said salvation army representative dawn worthy.

The Christmas giveaway continues Thursday in Holmes County.

If you haven't turned in an application, you can still apply in Bay County on December 22 between 9 and 11 a.m.
