Take a look down your street and chances are you'll see lots of kids riding their bicycles.
Another look and you'll probably notice many of them are not wearing helmets, but in Lynn Haven police are taking a headstrong approach to the safety issue.
SGT Conway Reeder wants to help keep kids in his town safe. With a little help from the Florida Department of Health. Starting Friday, police in Lynn Haven will be armed with citations and helmets.
The aim is to keep kids safe on their bikes.
SGT Conway Reeder said, "It gives us a good chance to stop and talk with them, and we give them and we give them a citation, which they can get a helmet with."
The program, dubbed operation headstrong, targets bicyclists 16 and under. The police department has 200 helmets to give out. Officers hope to hand them all out out by next spring.
