Thursday a Jackson County grand jury indicted Thomas Cochrane on two counts of first degree premeditated murder.

Cochrane is accused of killing a married couple in their Missouri Avenue home, just outside of Marianna in April 2003.

State Attorney Steve Meadows says Cochrane, a neighborhood friend, shot Powell with a shotgun and stabbed Tedder in the heart with a knife and then set the house on fire.

Ten months earlier Cochrane was charged with the murder of Ricky Meredith and sentenced to life in prison.

"I'm thrilled that the grand jury weighed the evidence and determined that there was sufficient grounds to go forward with the prosecution to bring justice to this family that has waited for so long," says Meadows.

Cochrane's arraignment date is set for January 9.

Meadows says he's in the process of putting together a circuit committee of senior prosecutors who will evaluate the case to decide if the death penalty should be pursued in this case.
