Let me first apologize to Rick, I'm not a "superhero" like you sir. I didn't save the world! If I have a gun pointed at me I have the right to point one back. If you fire a gun anywhere close to my direction then I will defend myself as a non bulletproof mere mortal would....not all of us are made of steel!

I can't believe this guy took five .40 caliber rounds and he's giving newspaper interviews. Our deputies need to be carrying .45 ACP's.

Yes I have had a sawed off shotgun pointed in my face and I am retired military and carried a weapon for 18 years. The issue is when to use deadly force. Deadly force may be authorized in a specific situation but those are guidelines and the officer must make the decision as to if it is truly warranted. I believe too many LEO's shoot when they truly should not. There is too much backslapping going on with fellow officers and others before the facts are out. Technically the accused could have pointed the rifle in the general direction of the officer while waving it around and met the requirements of use of deadly force but that does not mean the subject should be shot just that technically he could be shot IAW the law. Oh yes I have had some of the same training as a leo so please don't over simplify and I protected the nation for you.

This is for Rick. I just wondering if you had ever had someone point a gun at you? Our jobs are to protect the public by most of all ourself. In a situation like that you just don't run up and spray the guy with pepper spray. We are trained in these situations and there is no telling if this guy was on drugs or what. We dont give people a chance to take our life or someone elses. We are out here on the line everyday protecting YOU and others. We can all quarterback this every minute of the day but until you are in our shoes you dont know whats going on. I wasn't there any im sure many others wasn't either. I commend him for his efforts one is for keeping himself safe and 2 no one else was injured. Just in case you're wondering if someone has pulled a gun on me in the line of duty. The answer is YES.

Once again, well done Bay County Sheriff's Office. You're a hero, Deputy Vidrine. Five hits under the circumstances is excellent shooting. You, sir, are to be commended. And, justified.

Sounds to me that he was a gun waver and did not have intent to shoot the officers or he would not have fired in the air. I hope he did not pay with his life for his bad judgement or possible intoxication. The officer did what he was trained to do. What I ask is could he have ended it without shooting the man or getting shot.Taking a life is final, the man could die.

I am so happy that the young officer is OK, God Bless you and we are preying for you. This could have been a very sad day for the bay county sheriffs department instead it ended with the officers safety being maintained
