Golf carts apparently aren't just meant for golf courses anymore. Owners can already drive on some Panama City Beach streets.

Now county commissioners are considering a similar ordinance for Bay County. Tuesday, commissioners will discuss letting the carts roam the county's roadways.

The small vehicles won't be allowed on state highways, but with the stamp of approval from the county, drivers could cruise on any road designated by commissioners with a speed limit of 30 miles per hour or less.

Commissioners say drivers would still be expected to follow the rules of the road.

Mike Thomas, Bay County Commissioner, said, "The rules are pretty much the same as if you were driving. You have to have a valid driver's license. You have to be of a certain age. You can't drive at night with these because they're not headlight equipped."

Commissioners will hold the first of two public hearings on the matter Tuesday morning at 8:00 a.m.
