A late night fire has left a restaurant in downtown Panama City completely destroyed.
The massive fire began inside the Old Shay's Oyster House on lower Grace Avenue late Sunday night.
Panama City firefighters fought the large blaze for hours, and as of sunrise Monday they were busy putting out a few spot flare ups.
The restaurant is completely destroyed. Firefighters were able to contain the blaze within the restaurant, so the businesses surrounding it on lower Grace Avenue were not affected.
It’s recently operated as Old Shay's Oyster House. Prior to that, it served temporarily as Hunts Oyster Bar after it burned down in St Andrew, and prior to that it was the original Cheese Barn.
As of now, the cause of the blaze is unknown. One wall has caved in and investigators are letting the ruins cool off before they go in.
They hope to continue tomorrow to find out how this blaze started.
