Local schoolteacher Carol Mizell is encouraging residents and business owners to decorate this week. She wants Bay County to show the troops appreciation for the job they have done.
Mizell is asking everyone to put up yellow ribbons, signs and American flags. This is important to Mizell, who has a brother in the 124th Infantry.
"That we are visually welcoming them, showing them how thankful we are that they’re back and they're safe and a tribute to them," says Mizell.
No date is set for the troops' return, but Carol is encouraging everyone to decorate by February 3. Meanwhile, plans are already well underway in Chipley where organizers plan to line the route to the local armory with decorations and people, giving the guard a true heroes homecoming.
