Investigators with the Special Investigations Division of the Bay County Sheriff’s Office were called to 3920 Cedar Bluff Road, Southport, after drug activity was found to have resulted in a house fire.
Brandon Leigh Barfield called 911 because a fire started in a closet of the Cedar Bluff home. When the Fire Marshal’s Office arrived, they found what appeared to be a marijuana plant in the closet where the fire ignited.
The cause of the fire, according to the State Fire Marshal’s Office was the lamp in the closet that was used to grow marijuana indoors.
Investigators believe Barfield found instructions to grow marijuana indoors on the internet and was conducting an "experiment" in his closet when the plant caught fire. Barfield, 20, was charged with Manufacture of Marijuana and taken to the Bay County Jail.
