The Democratic Presidential Primary race is now down to two main candidates, and your vote could decide which on goes up against President Bush in November.

There are more than 200,000 registered voters in our section of the Panhandle and half of those are Democrats.

Many will finally get a chance to select the 2004 Democratic Presidential Candidate. The primary race has narrowed down to two senators who local Democrats say provide a similar vision of change for America.

John Kerry and John Edwards are the obvious frontrunners going into Florida’s March 9 primary and when it comes to the issues they are almost one in the same. Both will focus on President Bush’s weakness, the jobless rate.

The unemployment rate in Bay County is about 6.2 percent, which is higher than the national rate making it a very salient issue for area Democrats.

However it is the differences in character and background that Bay County voters may ultimately look at to make their choice next Tuesday.

John Edwards is the freshman Senator from South Carolina who boasts a record that he says defines him as a Washington outsider.

While about 98,000 Panhandle Democrats will take to the polls next Tuesday, about 91,000 Panhandle Republicans are already looking to November.

The polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. next Tuesday.
