UPDATE: Springfield Fire Cause Still Undetermined
It's been almost two weeks since that fire in Springfield took out an entire building. As time passes, it's looking like State Fire Marshal's investigators may never be able to determine the cause of the large warehouse fire.

State Fire Marshal's investigators have spent the last two weeks trying to find the exact cause of the Springfield fire. They have determined where the blaze started, but not how. The debris is still being analyzed by the Fire Marshal's lab.

Investigators say arson is unlikely, but the intensity of the blaze has compromised some of the evidence. The fire started late in the afternoon on October 7 at the Citadel Storage Center on the corner of East Business 98 and Everitt Avenue. The flames destroyed an entire wing of the facility, which housed rental storage units and a couple of businesses.

Lt. Les Nelson, with the Division of the State Fire Marshal, says, "This fire got so intense, it may have destroyed the accidental evidence of a fire. Copper melts at 2000 degrees, so it could have all melted away in that area of origin."

If you have any information on this fire, please contact the State Fire Marshal's Office at (805) 747-5890.
