Two elderly persons died early Monday morning in a house fire at 593 Pine Street in Alligator Point.

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office identified the fire fatalities as 80 year old A. J. Thompson and his wife, Joyce, 71 years old.

The alarm was sounded a few minutes after midnight by a 911 caller who reported the home was totally engulfed in flames and the two residents were trapped inside.

Two family pets also died in the blaze.

Firefighters from Alligator Point and Lanark Village Volunteer Fire Departments were assisted by the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, The State Fire Marshal’s Office and The Florida Department of Law Enforcement.

The cause of the blaze has not yet been determined.
