As part of head start's focus on family health and safety, Early Education and Care's Head Start program hosted a reading festival at the Springfield Community Center for children and their families to educate them about health and safety practices for the home.

There were stories for the children read by community leaders and local agencies including Basic, Boys and Girls Club, Catholic Charities, Healthy Start, Girls, Inc., Gulf Coast Advocacy Center, Life Management and Red Cross.
